If I had to guess, I’d say Bob Russell and I have known each other maybe a decade, ever since I wandered into his original (and tiny) Stoneface Dolly’s restaurant on Bronson Avenue and chatted him up about his delicious lamb burgers....

History
Humble beginnings indeed. “Dolly’s” quietly opened at the corner of Bronson and McLeod in the mid 1990’s. Business was slow and the original owner would sit after lunch with her mother, Dolly, and play cards to pass the time away. Dolly, as it turns out, was an exceptional card player. This was at least partly due to what her daughter referred to as Dolly’s poker or “stoneface”. The nickname stuck and Stoneface Dolly’s was purchased in 1999 by current owner and chef, Bob Russell. Through time and by carefully listening to his guests, Stoneface Dolly’s has evolved from a single diner into two unpretentious café’s serving homestyle gourmet food with an international twist - the type of food you might serve guests at a dinner party.

Bob, originally from South Africa, has a passion for mixing ingredients to bring out unique and different flavours. He is often making the “rounds”, chatting with guests and making suggestions (and listening carefully for comments), while his son Jeff works his magic in the kitchen.

Stoneface Dolly’s is a casual and affordable restaurant catering to a local neighbourhood clientele of all ages. We will be serving the Ottawa community for many years to come and hope you will visit us soon.
